Johor Darul Ta’zim chief executive officer Luis Garcia has compared the club to a European one, in an interview with the British tabloid Daily Mail that the club shared on 10 October. In the graphic the club posted, Garcia is quoted as saying: “We are like a European club based in Malaysia, the mentality is exactly the same.”

The club’s post says the interview was about the team being on a world-record run. The Daily Mail headline shown in the graphic, by football reporter Lewis Steele and dated 7 October, credits the former Liverpool player with masterminding a world-record 113-game unbeaten run in Malaysia.

In the Malaysia Super League this season, Johor Darul Ta’zim have won all five of their matches, scoring 25 goals and conceding none, and they lead the table on 15 points.

On 9 October they reached the Malaysia FA Cup semi-finals with a 4-1 win over Penang FC at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, after a 7-2 win in the first leg. A day earlier they opened their ASEAN Club Championship campaign with a 6-0 win over Svay Rieng at the same ground.

Johor Darul Ta’zim play Pohang Steelers at Pohang Steel Yard on 13 October in League Stage 2 of the AFC Champions League, with kickoff at 6pm Malaysian time.
