Johor Darul Ta’zim take a 7-2 lead into the second leg against Penang FC in the Malaysia FA Cup

Johor Darul Ta’zim host Penang FC at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri, on Friday 9 October, kicking off at 5pm Malaysian time. It is the second leg of their Malaysia FA Cup quarter-final.

The first leg

The sides met in George Town on 20 September, where Johor Darul Ta’zim won 7-2 at City Stadium. B. Tapp scored twice, at 45+3’ and 70’, and Bergson, Marcos Guilherme, Stoichkov, S. Zahedi and A. Aiman scored one each. E. Celestine and K. Naskam got the goals for Penang FC.

Both clubs reached this round over two matches against the same opponent. Johor Darul Ta’zim beat Damansara FC 4-1 away on 1 September and 10-0 at home on 8 September. Penang FC won 1-0 at Melaka FC on 2 September and 2-1 in George Town on 9 September. That gives Johor Darul Ta’zim three wins from three Malaysia FA Cup matches this season, and Penang FC two wins and one defeat.

In the league

The Malaysia Super League table has Johor Darul Ta’zim top with 15 points from five matches, with 25 goals scored and none conceded. Penang FC are ninth of 12 with four points from four matches.

After the cup tie, Johor Darul Ta’zim travel to Pohang Steelers for a AFC Champions League league-stage match on 13 October.
