Selangor FC host Kuching City FC in the first leg of the semi-final at MBPJ Stadium tonight, kicking off at 9pm, and their head coach Kim Pan-gon has told his side not to take the visitors lightly, MFL reported on 22 October.

In MFL’s account, Kim called the match very important and said the aim was to reach the final this time. He named the players’ spirit and determination as what a high-intensity semi-final demands, and he acknowledged the quality of the side coached by Aidil Sharin Sahak. Kim also asked for a more aggressive, better display, partly for the supporters who keep coming to MBPJ Stadium. MFL recalled that last season’s run ended at the same stage, with a semi-final defeat by Sabah FC.

Selangor FC came through the round of 16 against Sabah FC, drawing 2-2 at Likas Stadium on 2 September and winning 2-1 at home on 9 September. In the quarter-final they won 4-1 at Tuanku Syed Putra Stadium on 19 September, then lost the home leg 3-2 to Star City FC on 11 October.

The two clubs met at the same stage of the Malaysia Cup in April 2026. After a 1-1 draw at MBPJ Stadium on 5 April, Kuching City FC won 1-0 at Taha Ariffin Stadium on 18 April and went through.

In the Malaysia Super League, Selangor FC are second with 15 points from five matches, three behind the leaders. They host Star City FC in the league on 1 November. The second leg of the semi-final is at Taha Ariffin Stadium in Kuching on 8 November, kicking off at 7.45pm.
