Manchester City struck three times inside a quarter of an hour in the second half on 11 October, leaving Liverpool beaten 3-0 in front of their own supporters.
Liverpool’s own account says the visitors scored all three after Ryan Gravenberch’s sending-off. Erling Haaland opened the scoring in the 65th minute. Jeremy Doku added the second in the 68th minute from Elliot Anderson’s pass, and Rayan Cherki made it 3-0 in the 78th minute, set up by Josko Gvardiol.
Before kickoff, Liverpool had said that Cody Gakpo and Alexander Isak, both injured during the international fixtures, would miss the game.
The win gives Manchester City five victories from their last five Premier League matches. Liverpool have two wins, two draws and one defeat from their last five.
The sides also met on 4 April, in the English FA Cup quarter-final, when Manchester City won 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium.
Both clubs are back in the Champions League on 15 October. Liverpool visit LASK, kicking off at 12.45am Malaysian time, and Manchester City host Paris Saint-Germain at 3am Malaysian time.
