Sabah FC will hold their first grassroots tournament on 21 and 22 November 2026 at Padang SAFA in Likas, Kota Kinabalu. Entry is open to all teams in two age groups, under-9 and under-11, with room for 16 teams in each.

Irwan Jamil, the club’s technical director, said the event is part of an effort to build a clearer, more structured development pathway that starts at grassroots level. He said the tournament is less about deciding a champion than about developing players and the wider football ecosystem in Sabah. Its group format and multi-tier cups keep every team playing through to the final stage, which he said gives players more competitive experience.

The club will use the two days to assess players’ technique, decision-making, teamwork and understanding of the game, and as one way to spot young talent for its academy. Irwan said the under-9 and under-11 groups were chosen with the long term in mind, including preparation for the MSSM U12 competition in 2027 and 2028.

Sabah FC see grassroots work as a way to reduce their reliance on outside recruits over the long term, provided local player development is carried out consistently and systematically. The club has invited academies, clubs, coaches, young players and parents to take part in the first edition.
