DPMM FC goalkeeper Sam Somerville calls for discipline in the Kuala Lumpur City second leg

DPMM FC goalkeeper Sam Somerville wants the 3-3 draw with Kuala Lumpur City to be a lesson in discipline before the second leg of their Malaysia FA Cup quarter-final in Cheras on Sunday.

In an interview published by MFL on 10 October, Somerville said he was a little disappointed with the draw, above all because DPMM FC had led 3-1. He said the result put no extra pressure on the team, since a place in the semi-finals was still open before the second meeting away from home. He also expects a harder match, saying Kuala Lumpur City have brought in several new players who could make them stronger.

Somerville described the competition with Haimie Nyaring for the goalkeeper’s position as a positive for the squad, even though only one of them can start. As a new goalkeeper, he said, he has to show his quality and earn the trust of the coach and his team-mates.

In the first leg at Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium, Bandar Seri Begawan, on 20 September, J. Murray put DPMM FC ahead in the 18th minute and Paulo Josue levelled from the penalty spot in the 33rd minute. F. Izdiham then scored in the 54th minute and again in the 58th minute. B. Shamsudin replied in the 72nd minute and F. Sadat levelled in the 77th minute for Kuala Lumpur City.

In the Malaysia Super League, both clubs have 6 points. DPMM FC are fifth after four matches and Kuala Lumpur City sixth after five.

The second leg kicks off at 8.15pm on 11 October at Kuala Lumpur Stadium, Cheras.
