Selangor FC travel to Kangar tonight for the first leg of their FA Cup quarter-final against Star City FC, a tie that pairs one of the Malaysia Super League’s better-placed sides with a club still looking for its first league win of the season.
The fixture
Kick-off at Stadium Tuanku Syed Putra is at 9pm, and the match is live on Astro Arena Bola (803), Astro GO and Sooka. This is the first of two legs, and the tie is settled in the return.
Selangor FC reached the last eight by putting out Sabah FC 4-3 on aggregate over two legs, and the club notes that four Liga A1 Semi-Pro sides are in this season’s competition alongside twelve Malaysia Super League clubs.
What Kim Pan-gon said
The Selangor FC head coach was content with the build-up. “Our preparations so far have been good,” he said, adding that “The fighting spirit among all the players are also at a good level,” after the side’s most recent outing.
He was careful about the hosts too, calling them a strong team with good and experienced players in all the key positions.
Star City FC’s league season so far
The home side arrive in an awkward spot. Star City FC are 11th of 12 in the Malaysia Super League on 2 points from 4 matches, with 2 draws and 2 defeats, 4 goals scored and 13 conceded, and they sit 13 points behind the leaders.
Three of those four league matches were away from home. The one at Kangar ended 1-1 with Terengganu FC; the heaviest of the away days was a 7-0 defeat at Johor Darul Ta’zim.
A cup tie is its own competition, though, and this one is only half-played by the final whistle tonight.
