Harimau Malaya opened the FIFA ASEAN Cup with a 3-0 win over Bangladesh at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta on 25 September, in a Division 1 group-stage match that kicked off at 17:00 Malaysian time.

The three goals

FIFA’s own report of the match names Arif Aiman as the scorer of both first-half goals, in the 18th minute and again in the 37th minute, and Bergson as the scorer of the third shortly after the restart.

The opener came from a lofted Nooa Laine pass, finished through the legs of the Bangladesh goalkeeper Mehedi Hasan Srabon, and the second followed a ball from Stuart Wilkin.

Bergson was making his international debut for Harimau Malaya, and the coach Tan Cheng Hoe named three debutants in his starting eleven.

The one chance the report records at the other end came late, when Hamza Choudhury forced a save out of Haziq Nadzli.

The rest of the group

Harimau Malaya play Indonesia at the same ground on 28 September, kicking off at 20:30 Malaysian time, and Singapore at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung on 1 October, also at 20:30.

The other half of the draw opened a day earlier, with Laos against Brunei and Myanmar against Timor-Leste.
