Harimau Malaya finished third at the FIFA ASEAN Cup, beating Vietnam 1-0 in the bronze final at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Jakarta, on 5 October. The match kicked off at 5pm Malaysian time.
FIFA’s match report describes a tight first half in which Bergson forced Le Giang Patrik into two saves before the break. Bergson, struggling with injury, made way for Fergus Tierney on the hour, and the substitute scored in the 62nd minute with a shot through the legs of Bui Hoang Viet Anh. FIFA’s report says it was his second international goal.
Vietnam lost Ngo Dang Khoa to injury shortly after and had a penalty ruled out following a VAR review, according to the same report. The lead held to the final whistle.
The win completes an unbeaten tournament for Harimau Malaya: three wins and a draw from four matches. In the group stage they beat Bangladesh 3-0, drew 0-0 with Indonesia and beat Singapore 6-0. FIFA’s report notes that they were the only side not to concede in the group stage, and that Indonesia pipped them to a place in the final on goals scored.
It was Harimau Malaya’s first win over Vietnam since a 4-0 at Bukit Jalil on 10 June 2025. Vietnam won the three meetings after that: 3-1 on 31 March 2026, then 2-0 in each leg of the ASEAN Championship semi-final in August.
Vietnam end the tournament with two wins and two defeats.
