Selangor FC beat Penang FC 3-1 at MBPJ Stadium on 17 October in the club’s 2,000th match, and head coach Kim Pan-gon said his side still had to absorb pressure until the closing stages.

The club’s match review says Chrigor Moraes headed the opener in the 11th minute and scored again in the 52nd minute, converting a corner from Quentin Cheng. Penang FC pulled one back in the 69th minute. In stoppage time Selangor FC were awarded a penalty, and after Chrigor Moraes’ kick was saved, Zikri Khalili scored from the rebound at 90+4’.

Kim said the early goal mattered. “The first goal helped to relieve some of the pressure on our defensive line,” he said. He called the win on the night of the milestone “a very meaningful gift for our supporters”.

He was less pleased with parts of the performance. “We managed to create many chances, but at certain moments, our play was a little passive,” Kim added. With harder matches to come, he said, “we must remain humble and approach our next match with the right mentality”.

The 3-1 win over Penang FC leaves Selangor FC second in the Malaysia Super League with 15 points from five matches, all of them wins, three points behind the leaders. Penang FC are 11th with four points.
