Tottenham Hotspur were a goal and a man down at Old Trafford and still left with a 1-1 draw, Dominic Solanke heading the equaliser two minutes into stoppage time against Manchester United.

Two late turns

Tottenham Hotspur’s match report says the visitors created most of the chances in the first half without scoring. The opening goal went the other way in the 73rd minute, when Matheus Cunha slid the ball through to Bryan Mbeumo, who turned and shot low past Antonin Kinsky into the bottom corner.

Rodrigo Bentancur, on as a substitute, was sent off five minutes after coming on, shown a straight red card by referee Stuart Attwell. Kinsky then kept out Mbeumo in the 86th minute.

Solanke, captain for the first time, was too strong for Lisandro Martinez and glanced in a header from Sandro Tonali’s cross at 90+2’. By the club’s own count, it was Tottenham Hotspur’s first away league goal of the season. The attendance was 74,129.

What De Zerbi said

Tottenham Hotspur coach Roberto De Zerbi said of the sending-off: “I like the red card”. In his press conference he added that “today has been the game where for the first time in this season we showed to be a team”.

The point leaves Manchester United with one win, three draws and one defeat from their last five Premier League matches. Tottenham Hotspur have three draws and two defeats from their last five.

Manchester United visit Atlético Madrid in the Champions League on 14 October, kicking off at 3am Malaysian time. Tottenham Hotspur are at home in the league on 20 October, also at 3am Malaysian time.
