The goalkeeper's debut in the Subway Players Cup tie with West Ham has put her on the club's permanent list of senior players, as number 189.

Selma Panengstuen has been given her Tottenham Hotspur Legacy Number, which the club issues once a player has appeared in a senior competitive fixture.

The debut

Panengstuen joined from SK Brann this summer and came into the starting line-up for the club’s first game of the Subway Players Cup league phase, against West Ham on Wednesday night.

The goalkeeper kept a clean sheet through the 90 minutes, and she saved a penalty in the shootout that followed, although West Ham took that 4-3.

Number 189

The Norway international has been assigned Legacy Number 189.

The scheme was launched to commemorate the contribution of every player to have represented the club in a senior competitive fixture from the 2011/12 campaign onwards, and the club says 189 players are now honoured. That makes Panengstuen the most recent name on it, and the club publishes the full list on its own website.

Earned on the pitch

The qualification is an appearance rather than a signing, which is why the number arrived on the night of the debut and not in the summer, when Panengstuen had already been at the club for weeks without a senior game.

It came on an evening the club lost, which is beside the point of the scheme: the list records that a player has represented the club, not how the night went.
