Chris Kavanagh has been appointed to take charge of Liverpool against Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday, Liverpool announced on 6 October. The Premier League Matchday 6 fixture kicks off at 11.30pm Malaysian time on 11 October, which is 4.30pm in the UK.
According to the club, Kavanagh’s assistants will be Dan Cook and Nick Greenhalgh, with Andy Madley as fourth official. Paul Howard is in charge of VAR, and Nick Hopton assists him.
Andoni Iraola’s side resume their league campaign with the fixture, and by the club’s own count a win would take their Premier League victories over Manchester City to 24.
Ahead of the game, Liverpool asked supporters to rank the club’s best league wins over Manchester City since the Premier League began. First place went to the 4-3 win at Anfield in January 2018, against a side that finished that season as champions with 100 points. The club describes the 6-0 win of October 1995, sixth on the list, as its biggest ever victory over Manchester City. The most recent entry is fourth: a 2-0 win away in February 2025, when Mohamed Salah scored and then set up Dominik Szoboszlai.
The clubs last met on 4 April 2026, when Manchester City won 4-0 in an FA Cup quarter-final at the Etihad Stadium.
After Sunday, both turn to the Champions League. Liverpool visit LASK at 12.45am Malaysian time on 15 October, and Manchester City host Paris Saint-Germain at 3am the same morning.
