The Tottenham Hotspur Women’s Under-19s went to Bristol City on Wednesday afternoon, fell behind, and had the match turned around inside four minutes before half-time on the way to a 2-1 win in the Professional Game Academy League.
Four minutes before the break
Bristol City scored with five minutes of the first half remaining, and on another afternoon that would have been the story of it.
Instead the response was immediate. Poppy Neill levelled on the stroke of half-time, the first goal she has scored this campaign.
Grace Bellwood added the second two minutes into first-half stoppage time, and a side that had been behind moments earlier walked off in front.
Bellwood’s afternoon
The second goal carried more than the lead with it. Bellwood was making her first start of the season, having come back from an injury picked up towards the end of last term, and it was her first goal of this campaign.
Neither side added to the score after the interval, so those minutes either side of the whistle were the whole of the afternoon.
The answer to a first defeat
The Under-19s had been beaten earlier this month by Ipswich, the first time they had lost in the competition this campaign; until then they had gone unbeaten.
This was the reply to it, and it was taken away from home, in the south-west. The club’s own account of the afternoon was brief, and said further detail would follow.
