The Football Association of Malaysia is a hundred years old, and it marked the occasion at its own front door.
FAM said the association turned 100 years old on 11 September 2026, and that the anniversary of its founding was celebrated at a thanksgiving ceremony at Wisma FAM in Kelana Jaya, on the night before the association’s post of 23 September.
A century, and a committee a few days old
The centenary falls in a crowded month for Malaysian football’s governing body. Its members elected a president and a full committee last week, ending a caretaker arrangement that had run for most of the year. The ceremony at Kelana Jaya came days after that vote, in the building the association works from.
The hundredth year opens away from home
There is no pause in the calendar for it. Harimau Malaya play their opening match of the FIFA ASEAN Cup on 25 September, against Bangladesh at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta, kicking off at 17:00 Malaysian time.
Two more group matches follow.
The football the century closes on
The last competitive matches before the centenary were played in August, and they were hard ones. Harimau Malaya went out of the ASEAN Championship at the semi-final stage, beaten 0-2 at home by Vietnam on 16 August and then 2-0 in Hanoi on 19 August.
A hundred years is a long time to be running the game in one country, and FAM has spent the first days of its second century changing its own leadership and sending a team abroad. The next entry in the diary is a kickoff in Jakarta.
