P. Maniam’s Harimau Malaya B-15 side won their opening match at the FIFA U-15 Festival & World Cup in Azerbaijan, a 3-1 result against Dominica. FAM posted the full-time score, Dominica 1-3 Malaysia, on 24 October.
That was Matchday 1 of the Group H qualifying stage, according to a FAM media release of 14 October. All of the side’s group matches are at the Hövsan Competition Complex in Baku. Before travelling, Maniam called 22 players to a centralised camp in Gambang, Pahang, from 16 to 20 October. The 22 players called to that camp all come from three schools in Pahang, Johor and Terengganu.
The first edition of the tournament has drawn 189 teams from six confederations into 32 groups, FAM said. Matches are eight-a-side, and each group is a single round-robin in the qualifying stage. The tournament runs until 30 October.
Matchday 2 brings two games on Sunday 25 October: Syria at 1.00pm and Ethiopia at 7.45pm Malaysian time, according to the release. The group ends on Monday 26 October with Hungary at 3.30pm and Mexico at 10.15pm Malaysian time.
