Harimau Malaya and Indonesia finished level at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on 28 September, a Division 1 group-stage match of the FIFA ASEAN Cup that kicked off at 8.30pm Malaysian time and ended 0-0.
Ten men, and no way through
FIFA’s own report of the match calls it a tense Nusantara Derby, and has the hosts reduced to ten men in the first half when Thom Haye was shown a straight red, after a VAR review, for a challenge on Arif Aiman.
Before the card, the same report has Harimau Malaya the closer of the two, with Faisal Halim and then Nooa Laine putting efforts narrowly wide.
A man short, Indonesia did not retreat. Dean James forced Syihan Hazmi into a diving save, and the captain Kevin Diks drove an effort from a tight angle into the side netting.
Late on it was Harimau Malaya again: Paulo Josue and Fergus Tierney headed wide, and a Maarten Paes save and a Justin Hubner clearance off his own line kept them out.
Before the derby, Harimau Malaya had played one match in this edition, the 3-0 win over Bangladesh at the same ground on 25 September.
Thursday decides the group
FIFA’s report has the shared points leaving both sides ahead of Singapore going into the closing round of group matches, with Indonesia to face Bangladesh.
Harimau Malaya play Singapore at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung on 1 October, kicking off at 8.30pm Malaysian time. Thom Haye had told FIFA before the derby that his side were ready for it.
