Kelantan Red Warrior FC cannot afford simple mistakes if they are to win for the first time this season, their captain Arham Khussyairi told MFL in a preview of the Malaysia Super League match with Star City FC, posted on 14 October.
Neither side has won a league match yet. Kelantan Red Warrior FC are bottom of the 12-team table with no points from five matches, having scored 4 goals and conceded 24. Star City FC, 11th, have 2 points from four games, with two draws and two defeats. The narrowest of the hosts’ five defeats was a 3-2 loss at Penang FC on 12 September.
According to MFL, Arham said preparation had gone as usual during the league’s three-week break, with training and several warm-up matches. He said the players had to keep their focus until the final whistle, after making many simple errors in recent games. Mistakes of that kind, he said, disrupt the team’s momentum and leave them working harder to regain control.
Arham accepted that Star City FC have more foreign players and a physical advantage, but said the tactics prepared under coach Irfan Bakti could let his side give them a contest. He added that he knew his own job included helping to strengthen the defence.
Star City FC come into the match after a 3-2 win over Selangor FC at MBPJ Stadium on 11 October, in the second leg of a Malaysia FA Cup quarter-final. Selangor FC had won the first leg 4-1 at Tuanku Syed Putra Stadium on 19 September and went through to the semi-finals.
The match is at Sultan Muhammad IV Stadium, Kota Bharu, on 16 October (Friday), kicking off at 9pm Malaysian time.
