FAM president Ab Ghani Hassan says Tan Cheng Hoe is still the interim coach of Harimau Malaya, according to a post by reporter Zulhelmi Zainal Azam on 12 October.
Harimau Malaya came through the FIFA ASEAN Cup unbeaten, with three wins and a draw from four matches. They beat Bangladesh 3-0 on 25 September, drew 0-0 with Indonesia on 28 September and beat Singapore 6-0 on 1 October. The tournament ended with a 1-0 win over Vietnam in the bronze final at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Jakarta on 5 October.
In August, Vietnam had knocked them out of the ASEAN Championship, winning both legs of the semi-final 2-0.
Their second-round Group D programme in the previous World Cup Qualifiers ended with a 3-1 win over Chinese Taipei at TM National Stadium, Bukit Jalil, on 11 June 2024.
Zulhelmi Zainal Azam also reports that FAM is said to be planning to bring in a foreign coach, including one from Japan, before qualifying for the World Cup and the Asian Cup gets under way next year.
