Syihan Hazmi, Corbin-Ong, Quentin Cheng, Ubaidullah, Hidalgo, Harith Haiqal, Stuart Wilkin, Nooa Laine, Daniel Ting, Hong Wan and Bergson made up Tan Cheng Hoe’s starting XI against Vietnam on 5 October, according to the line-up graphic MFL posted before kickoff. MFL listed the kickoff at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium as 5pm Malaysian time, with Sukan+ and RTMKlik carrying the match.

The same graphic named ten more players beneath the eleven: goalkeepers Azri Ghani and Haziq Nadzli, plus Brad Tapp, Syahir Bashah, Arif Aiman, Fergus Tierney, G. Pavithran, Syahmi Safari, Paulo Josue and Nazmi Faiz.

Selangor FC said in a post on 5 October that four of its players, Quentin Cheng, Nooa Laine, Harith Haiqal and Syahir Bashah, would represent Malaysia in the FIFA ASEAN Cup third-place match against Vietnam. Three of them started, with Syahir Bashah among the other ten names on the MFL graphic.

The match at Gelora Bung Karno in Jakarta decides third place, as PFAM noted in its own message to the players. Harimau Malaya beat Bangladesh 3-0 on 25 September, drew 0-0 with Indonesia on 28 September and beat Singapore 6-0 on 1 October in the Division 1 group stage. Late goals earned Indonesia the place in the final ahead of Malaysia, the AFC reported.

Vietnam reached the match through a 4-2 win over Pakistan, in which Williams Minh Hoang scored his first goal for them, according to FIFA. The sides last met in the ASEAN Championship semi-finals in August, when Vietnam won 2-0 in Kuala Lumpur on 16 August and 2-0 again in Hanoi on 19 August.

After Jakarta, Harimau Malaya play China twice in Guangzhou, on 14 and 17 November, AFF said on 30 September.
